Parish Council

Parish Councils were established by the Local Government Act 1894 (56 & 57 Vict c73) to take oversight of civic duties in rural town and villages.

Uplowman Parish Council was thus formed in 1894 with most of the earlier Chairmen being the Reverend at that time and most of the elected councillors being farmers. In 1936 the Chairman, the Rev Sandford, resigned because only farmers and not working class were on the Council.
