{"id":1390,"date":"2024-12-28T15:28:49","date_gmt":"2024-12-28T15:28:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uplowmanhistory.org.uk\/?page_id=1390"},"modified":"2025-09-11T09:24:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:24:17","slug":"parish-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uplowmanhistory.org.uk\/?page_id=1390","title":{"rendered":"Parish Council"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parish Councils were established by the Local Government Act 1894 (56 &amp; 57 Vict c73) to take oversight of civic duties in rural town and villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uplowman Parish Council was thus formed in 1894 with most of the earlier Chairmen being the Reverend at that time and most of the elected councillors being farmers.
